Images and Media

ClearCMS stores your images and files so they load fast for visitors everywhere.

Uploading an image

There are two ways to add an image:

Click to replace — click any existing image on your page. The right panel opens and shows an upload button. Click it and pick a file from your computer.

Media library — click the image icon in the left sidebar to open your media library. Drag files in or click Upload to add new ones. Then click any image to insert it.

Supported formats

You can upload JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, and SVG files. For photos, JPG or WebP gives you the best mix of quality and speed.

Maximum file size is 10 MB per image on the Free plan. Paid plans allow up to 50 MB or 500 MB depending on your storage option.

ClearCMS optimizes your images automatically

When you upload an image, ClearCMS:

  • Creates multiple sizes (thumbnail, small, medium, large) automatically
  • Converts resized versions to WebP for faster loading
  • Delivers it quickly to visitors worldwide

You do not need to resize or compress images before uploading.

Editing images — crop, zoom, and focal point

ClearCMS includes a built-in image editor. To open it, click the Edit button on any image (in the right panel or on the page). The editor opens in a popup where you can:

  • Crop the image to a specific area or aspect ratio
  • Zoom in or out
  • Set a focal point so ClearCMS crops the image smartly at different sizes (important for faces or key subjects)
tip

Set a focal point on photos with important subjects (like faces). ClearCMS uses the focal point when showing the image at different sizes on your site.

The media library

Open the media library from the left sidebar to see all files you've uploaded. You can:

  • Search by filename
  • Delete files you no longer need
  • Copy a file's URL to use it elsewhere

Clicking images on the canvas

When you click an image directly on the page, a small menu appears with three options:

  • Edit — opens the image editor (crop, zoom, focal point)
  • Change — opens the media picker to choose a different image
  • Remove — clears the image from that slot

This is the fastest way to make quick changes to images without opening the right panel.

Replacing an image

Click the image you want to replace, then click Change in the menu (or Replace image in the right panel). The old image is removed from that spot but stays in your media library in case you need it again.

Alt text

Alt text describes an image for people who use screen readers and for search engines. When you upload or select an image, you will see an Alt text field in the right panel. Fill this in with a short description of what the image shows.

Good alt text: "Three team members smiling outside the office" Bad alt text: "image123.jpg" or leaving it blank
